4-H at the
State Fair

Dormitory Policy and Discipline Policy

DORMITORY POLICY

4-H member participants staying overnight are expected to sleep in the assigned 4-H dormitory. Bunk space will be assigned at final registration based on the information provided on the validation registration report.

The adult in charge of each county delegation is responsible for members of the delegation and will be the official contact for concerns of program, health, and/or behavior. Dormitory staff, security and health personnel are provided to assist the adult in charge in discharging their responsibility.

Participants assigned to Bailey Hall may be asked to sleep on the floor. State Fair Staff will attempt to notify counties with possible 'floor' situations with as much time as possible so that they can prepare delegations by bringing air mattresses or cots.

There will be regular bus service from Bailey Hall to the fairgrounds for those staying in Bailey Hall. Please check the official schedule posted in the Superintendent's Office. The bus will try to follow the schedule posted.

1. A member participant who is authorized by the county extension educator to stay with a parent or at a location other than a 4-H dormitory, MUST have a signed release form (Form 21) from the parents which absolves extension staff and Minnesota State Fair of responsibility for that individual. Such individuals must abide by the behavioral policies expected of all participants and will be responsible for their own gate admittance over and above the first entry. Members leaving before the county delegation with parent/relative MUST sign a departure form that states the reason before leaving the dormitory. Refunds for lodging will not be granted.

2. The curfew hour is 11:00 p.m.. Special note: The 11:00 p.m. curfew also pertains to county herdpersons, who must check in every hour with dorm staff or they will be subject to the same discipline policy.

DISCIPLINE POLICY

A new conduct policy was developed in 1993, the Minnesota 4-H Event/Activity Policy and Guidelines. It will be the model used for disciplinary concerns at the State Fair. Extension educators are expected to thoroughly discuss the contents of this policy with 4-Hers and chaperones before arrival at the Minnesota State Fair.
