About the Authors

Stephan Carlson, Ph.D., is an associate professor at the Center for 4-H Youth Development, College of Natural Resources and College of Education and Human Development, at the University of Minnesota. His research is in nonformal/informal learning environments and he teaches courses in interpretation and environmental education.

Michael Charland is assistant director for the Center for 4-H Youth Development at the University of Minnesota.

Trudy Dunham is a research fellow for the Center for 4-H Youth Development at the University of Minnesota. She is project director for CYFERNet, an information technology project coordinating access and development to Internet-based resources for youth and families.

Sue Maxa holds an M.Ed. in Recreation and an M.Ed. in Education from the University of Minnesota. She currently teaches in the Minneapolis Public School System.

James Mitchell is a lecturer in the Cooperative Learning Center, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, at the University of Minnesota.

Deedee Nagy is an extension educator in communications at the University of Minnesota.

David Pace is an associate professor and 4-H youth development educator for the Center for 4-H Youth Development at the University of Minnesota.

Bradley Rugg is a 4-H program coordinator at the Center for 4-H Youth Development. He has been an extension educator with the University of Minnesota Extension Service system for 12 years. He is responsible for animal science areas and is superintendent for all 4-H programming at the Minnesota State Fair.

Carol Shields is director for the Center for 4-H Youth Development, College of Education and Human Development, at the University of Minnesota.

Michelle Sims is a community program specialist for the Center for 4-H Youth Development. She is currently a graduate student in the Department of Social Work at the University of Minnesota.

Eric Snyder holds an MPA from the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. His area of interest is youth policy.

Joyce Walker, Ph.D., is a professor and youth development educator at the Center for 4-H Youth Development. She directs the Youth Development Leadership Masters in Education program and teaches in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. Her research and writing focus on youth policy and program development.

Lonnie White holds an M.Ed. from the College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota. His interests are in teaching and community youth organizations.
