MN State Fair Rabbit Show Herdsmanship

Getting Started In The
4-H Rabbit Project

Herdsmanship judging is grouped into 2 divisions of counties. Division 1—Large County (4 exhibitors or more) and Division 2 (3 exhibitors or less). The following can be found in the State Fair Premium book.

1.  Cleanliness and Neatness—The cage should be clean and the area kept neat. (Please note that this primarily requires cleaning more than once daily.)

2.  Feed and shavings are available daily from 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. only.

3.  No cage decorations, signs, or name plates will be allowed.

4.  Bring your own feed and water dishes.

5.  Bring a dust pan, whisk broom and a container for soiled shavings. You must have a container for transporting shavings to and from the cages.

6.  Display all of your awards (stickers only) on your identification card.

7.  Replace soiled/torn cards immediately.

8.  No “For Sale” signs will be allowed on cages.

9.  Rabbit platforms will be available for Angora rabbits. (Advantages are cleaner cages, cooler and cleaner animals. Any county may use platforms for any rabbit if they bring their own platforms. (Platforms measure 2 1/2” high, 23 1/2 “ wide, and 23 “ long. They can be made entirely of wire mesh, or mesh on wooden frame. Mesh wire bottom be 1/2 “ by 1/2” by 1” (maximum).

10.  Automatic white placing will be given if exhibitors are interfering with public in the building such as throwing water, running ect.

11.  Promotional booth participation gives a bonus of 10pts above the normal making possible 110 point total.

12.  Plexiglass (24”x 18”) may be used to prevent interaction between rabbits.
