PDC Overview & Application

Purpose: Responsible for the Minnesota 4-H Dog Project, including the education, activities, promotion, policies, and finances.
Membership: Members (termed Directors) consist of youth, adult volunteers,  chairpersons of standing committees, Extension Educators from the University of Minnesota Extension, and representatives of the Center for 4-H Youth Development.  The responsibility of a Director is to represent their Extension District while serving as an active member in the decision-making and program implementation.  Terms are for three years.
Representation: The University of Minnesota Extension has divided the state into five Extension Districts - Northwest, Northeast, Central, Southwest, and Southeast.  The bylaws allow for two youth and three adult representatives from each district.
Meetings: There are three regular meetings a year (spring, summer, and fall).  The fall meeting is considered the “Annual Meeting” for selection purposes.  The spring and fall meetings are held at the St. Paul Campus of the University of Minnesota-usually on Saturdays.  The summer meeting is usually in June at a location determined by the MSDP Development Committee.
Selection: Applications from youth, adult volunteers, and Extension Educators submitted to the Center for 4-H Youth Development are forwarded to the MSDP Chair.  Regular selections are made at the Annual Meeting.  Because of the staggered terms, there is always one “opening” each year.  Selection is based on qualifications and project involvement.
Specific Responsibilities:
  1. Solicit and present at each meeting the ideas and concerns of your county/district members, leaders, Extension Educators, and committees.
  2. Report to your county/district 4-H committees and Extension Educators pertinent information and solicit input.
  3. Share with the MSDP Development Committee materials, training programs, and other items of interest from your county/district.
  4. See that progressive, interested youth, adults, and Extension Educators from your county/district are aware of and apply to the MSDP Development Committee.
  5. Accept a minimum of one committee assignment.
  6. Assist with training events, statewide activities, development of materials, resource development, and program evaluation as time and interest allow.
  7. Attend each regularly scheduled meeting of the MSDP Development Committee (3/year).
To apply to be a member of the Minnesota State 4-H Dog Project Development Committee (PDC) you must complete an application. 
The application is two pages and requires the signature of your local Extension Educator.
