WONDERWISE
Are you looking for a packaged lesson to "hook" new youth, or do you have an existing group that you need a lesson for? WONDERWISE introduces you to women who have made science their career. However, the kits can be used for both males and females. WONDERWISE kits include a video and CD-ROM. The Activity Books (English and Spanish versions) can be downloaded from the WONDERWISE website as well supply lists and community service ideas. Available topics include:

  • African Plant Explorer - Why do certain plants prevent or cure humna diseases?
  • Space Geologist - What can craters on earth and other planets caused by asteroids tell us?
  • Vet Detective - Can the science behind traditional Native values protect elk and bison herds on reservations?
  • Parasite Sleuth - How do parasites survive inside another animal without being digested and expelled?
  • Rainforest Ecologist - How do rainforests support poisonous frogs and other life?
  • Sea Otter Biologist - Wht impact do environmental disasters have on nature?
  • Urban Ecologist - What keeps wetlands healthy?
  • Pollen Detective - Does pollen play an importatn part of our lives besides perstering us with allergies?
  • Genetic Counselor - What casues genetic diseases and how are they passed from generation to generation?

Traveling Trash Trunks
Three 30-minute lessons focus on the topics of garbage, resource recovery, landfills, and groundwater. Traveling Trash Trunks are filled with curriculum ideas, hands-on activities, books, music, and videos. These interactive, comprehensive lessons are designed for youth ages 5-12. Trash Trunks are loaned out at no charge. Call Ramsey or Washington County to arrange to borrow a Trash Trunk.
